On June 1, 2024, MusicWorx hosted a recital for San Diego Regional Center clients and their families. The immense talent and joy were on full display as the clients showed off their skills by performing their favorite chart-topping hits, original compositions and jamming out on the drum set. Organized by Seika Bishton, the recital was presented as a showcase of the client’s talents, determination, and desire to perform. After a brief introduction and welcome song by music therapists, Annela Flores, Seika Bishton, and Kevin Alvarez, the show began.
Princeton kicked off the individual performances with an original song about dinosaurs- an instant hit! Accompanied by his music therapist, Seika, he stole the show, enthralling the audience with his performance.
Next up, Noah dazzled with a spectacular drum solo that pumped up the crowd and got the feet tapping and the hands clapping. You can see the joy radiating from his smile!
Skyler was then accompanied by his music therapist, Kevin, to perform a crowd favorite, “Firework” by Katy Perry. And a crowd favorite it was! He got everyone singing, dancing, and clapping along!
Charlotte followed with her debut performance, with her take on “America the Beautiful,” duetting with her music therapist, Annela. She concluded her time with a powerful rendition of the AC/DC classic, “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ’n Roll).
We then had two clients perform songs on the piano. First, Christopher presented his take on the 21st Century Fox Theme, while Aaron and Seika performed the classic, “Let It Be” by the Beatles.
To close the show, Angela performed an original song titled, “Summertime”, inspired by memories from when she was young–a fantastic way to end the recital.
The MusicWorx recital was a smashing success, with all performances garnering acclaim from all attendees.
Music has a strong impact on these clients, and for them to voluntarily perform can be a daunting, yet rewarding experience. There was nothing but joy, support, and good times felt during the recital, and staff and clients alike cannot wait for the next one!
