MusicWorx Intern #116
I arrived in October of 2012 to begin my internship open to a variety of experiences, and I am here to tell you about all of the opportunities Resounding Joy has offered to both MusicWorx interns as well as the San Diego community. Our office functions as “home base” for interns and staff, as well as a space for Resounding Joy’s Recreational Music Center and Clinic (RMCC). REMO has helped make this possible, and as a result we are spreading music far and wide in the San Diego community. There have been many exciting events recently; here are some of the highlights!
Drum Facilitation Workshop with Christine Stevens
We were so very lucky to have music therapist Christine Stevens in our RMCC to lead a full day of drum facilitation training! Not only did we get to learn and try new facilitation techniques, we had a blast making music with community members from all over Southern California.
World Music Concert
I am most certainly a fan of world music, so you can imagine my excitement when Peruvian musician Jorge Choquehuillca showed up in our center with all of his beautiful (mostly hand made) instruments! An intimate crowd was present to not only enjoying his music, but also received a pan flute mini- lesson and personal flute to take home.
Mickey Hart Band
It was an exciting night at the Belly Up Tavern, where we shared with Mickey Hart fans what we are all about. We shared info about upcoming events, advocated for music therapy, and heard some amazing music all in one night!
These events all took place within the past month; imagine how many more amazing experiences MusicWorx interns have in the other five months! Looking ahead, our RMCC will be hosting more Community Jam nights, world drum trainings with Frank Lazzaro, and SO much more.
